Fun and friendship for people affected by memory loss and Loneliness
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with dementia, suffer from memory loss or find yourself living alone or feel excluded from society, we can help you.
Thousands of older people go at least five or six days a week without seeing or speaking to anyone at all and with 1 in 14 people over 65 living with Dementia, it is essential that people have access to services and support to help them enjoy life here in the Algarve and stay connected in their local community.
Memory Lane is a fund raising organisation that operates under the registered charity Associacao Guarda Chuva.
Our aim is to improve the lives of people across the region who are affected by Dementia or loneliness. As apart of the focus to promote inclusion into the community, we are delighted to launch the Memory Lane Happy Cafes
The cafes provide a safe environment where people affected by Dementia or Memory Loss can socialise and enjoy life enriching activities, such as animal therapy and musical reminiscence, within their local community.
There’s always plenty of tea, coffee and cakes, at every event so family and friends are welcome to come along too even those who spend time alone, this is a great place to meet people in a calm and friendly environment!
Each cafe is facilitated by a specialist team from Algarve Care Services as well as our team of volunteer Memory Makers. The cafes have been designed to support everyone affected by dementia, not just the person with the diagnosis. Loved ones and carers and those who are lonely can also benefit from a place where they can relax and talk to people who understand their concerns and challenges, as well as access specialist advice and support from local services.
